da Vinci® Myomectomy

da Vinci® Myomectomy performed with the da Vinci Surgical System represents the most advanced surgical technique for the treatment of uterine fibroids.

About 65,000 myomectomies are performed annually in the United States. Women who choose for myomectomy over hysterectomy are often of child-bearing age and want to retain their reproductive ability.

The majority of myomectomies are still performed through open incisions. Reasons for slow adoption of laparoscopic myomectomy may include:

  • Difficult learning curve
  • Myomectomy requires complex suture reconstruction of the uterus: If the uterus is not properly suture-reconstructed and healed, there could be increased risk of uterine rupture during childbirth
  • Requires complex dissection, especially for multiple fibroids and large fibroids

da Vinci Myomectomy fully leverages the da Vinci Surgical System's state-of-the-art technology, including high resolution 3D vision, proprietary EndoWrist® instrumentation, Intuitive Motion and 4th arm. Recent studies suggest that these technological advantages may help surgeons provide fibroid patients with a better surgery than traditional open or conventional laparoscopic approaches can provide.
